The AMCO SWIM project team worked in the Newport station area during a 72 hour abnormal possession from the evening of Sunday 24th December through Christmas Day and Boxing Day until the early hours of Thursday 28th December.
Work involved the replacement of two number signal gantries and one number cantilever structure to enable overhead line electrification clearances to be achieved. The gantry structures were transported to site and signal dropper cages installation at low level to mitigate Working at Height hazards. The existing structures were then removed and new structures installed utilising a mixture of conventional mobile cranes and road rail craneage.
AMCO worked closely with the Network Rail signalling contractor Amey Rail to enable all signalling recovery, installation, testing and commissioning works to be achieved successfully within the same blockade.
